Most of us remember Aesop’s fable of The Tortoise and the Hare.  In business and in life some of us are hares  –  first to respond  to the latest trend, first to have the latest gadget.  And some of us are tortoises.  But we keep on ‘keeping on’ and get there in the end. So what does Aesop’s fable and our ‘tortoise tendencies’ have to do with our real estate school?

Evergreen Professional Training, Inc. is getting on the bandwagon to offer distance learning classes.  We have been planning how to do presentations and addressing marketing.  Check our website June 1 for a roster of classes.

All of our classes have been approved by the DOL for presentation via such media as Skype, GoToMeeting, Zoom, etc.  We have a number of instructors and have left the issue of which media they choose to use up to them.

Mike England, a loan officer with Fairway Mortgage, has done his first live internet class on Reverse Mortgages and received rave reviews.

Many companies have been using this type of presentation for office meetings and instructional training for a number of years.   Coldwell Banker Bain was setting up for it back in 2012; Keller Williams has been into the internet use for everything for more than a decade; RE/Max does many presentations via internet as does John L Scott and Windermere.  Companies small and large across the northwest have been honing their skills for a number of years.

Washington REALTORS has been doing clock hour webinars for several years and the Spokane Association of REALTORS has been presenting clock hour classes via Zoom for a while now.  Other schools have been joining the list of presenters in the last couple of months due to the COVID 19 virus and live classes grinding to a halt.

Live presentations via the internet are not the same as online classes as they do allow for interaction between the instructor and the student..  But it requires a different mindset and a learning curve for the school and instructor which is where we have been at for the last month.

We always try to keep in mind what our focus is with clock hour classes.  We have four objectives for every class:

  • help the agent make more money
  • help the agent keep more money
  • help the agent avoid lawsuits
  • help the agent avoid Dept of Licensing and REALTOR Ethics complaints.

Our goal is to help agents be the most informed and as up-to-date as possible.

Like the tortoise, we get there, but always with the best interests of the agent/student in mind.  And yes, we will continue to offer live classes once that option is available again.

Stay safe; stay healthy!
